I love GUILD guitars. I was playing my 150D savoy and starfire III listening to the richness of it's mellow tone convinced me to lay down some tracks at home. The sound translated onto disc just fine. To all of our recording and professional members: try a 150D or starfireIII or a starfireIV on your next recording, your ears will say thank you!!!! carson

No arguments here Carson! I finally have a mini recording rig & have played around with my X150D acoustically with a Studio Projects B1. I was absolutely amazed at how it translated onto tape. Plugged in is a different realm entirely & just as inspiring! Testing my old M-75 for best recording set-up & have had similarly good results there as well as with my JF-30.

I'm just lacking a Guild bass (watching ebay intently) in order to be able to lay down some all Guild tracks!

I've had great results recording my Guilds too - my X175's with the single coils have a lot of character and never need any EQ to make them jump out of a mix.
My '61 Starfire III with DeArmonds is a fairly recent addition, and it's proving to be a studio champ - I've recorded two bands in the last year or so that used it, and it has amazing presence and character!

Walter,

Looks like we have similar taste in guitars. Of all the electric guitars I've played, my faves are my x175 with p90s and my Duane with DeArmonds. With the Duane Thing, I get a twang that makes it good for typical tele applications, yet is distinctive.

Looks like we have similar tastes indeed, though I do use a telecaster a lot more in the studio than I do onstage - they just record theirselves, so to speak.
The DeArmonds get a very "fendery" flavor indeed, with a little more grunt and punch. My '62 X175 with the white P90oids is my favorite guitar ever, period.

thank you all for your replies. the savoy 150D is a beautiful electric guitar. mine is a blonde. I enjoyed hearing from antwerp. that's a long way from ashland. I was recording tonight. We can work it out, with a Guild DV-52 a blonde and a fender american stratocaster, another blonde. I also did Nowhere Man with the DV-52 and the same strat. The last number was You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, and with the DV-52 and a Guild JF-30-12 and as you may have guessed another blonde. When I was a boy, I remember seeing John Lennon playing his stripped Epiphone Casino and I promised myself if I ever played a guitar it would be a blonde in memory of John Lennon!!!!!!!!!!!!!! carson

Carson,

Was that Epi the one Lennon played in the rooftop recording of Hey Jude?

How 'bout using that 12 to play Act Naturally in honor of Buck Owens?

john lennon and the stripped down casino on the rooftop!!!!!

Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After coming home from india in '68, John had the sunburst finish stripped of his Casino. He also had his Gibson J-160E stripped down from the psychedelic paint job from The Fool. According to what I read, Donovan told John the bare wood provided a better tone than a heavy finish would provide. John used the casino and his second gibson exclusively in the studio and videos up until the break-up of the Beatles in '70. You can see John play his casino (blonde) on the Let It Be video movie, hey jude promo and the revolution promo. He is seen playing it on the oldies concert he played in montreal with clapton and the plastic ono band, also on the dvd and cd of the rolling stones rock 'n roll circus in Dec. '68. His super band was called the plastic macs!!!!!!!!!!!! Lennon, clapton, and richards on bass playing YER BLUES. John's stripped down gibson J-160E was his second because his first one was stolen during a Christmas show in 1964. I read he really chewed poor Mal Evans a new one for that episode. I'll try act naturally on the jf-30-12. I met Buck Owens in Tempe Arizona a few days before we played in the fiesta bowl in DEC. '73. He was a very gracious man I remember I was so embarrassed when my aunt and her daughter didn't know who he was and he told them he was a singer and a picker who had to sing for his supper most nights. My aunt, God rest her sweet soul, gave him her card and told him if her was ever in Tucson, he could come to her house and have a good home cooked meal and he wouldn't have to sing for his supper that evening. She also said he could bring his friends too. Whew!!!!!!!!!!!! At 18 years old I wanted to crawl out of that restaurant, but my aunt ann was so innocent and very generous. I never asked if he took her up on her offer!!!!!!!!!!!!! carson

I'll bet Buck treasured that memory because your aunt was responding to who he really was, not because of a media image of him, or because he was famous.
