I assume it takes money to run this site, and that we are all getting something we like for free. So to help keep the forum going, we might consider the following.

Have a thread where folks give away stuff they aren't using, and the guys who get it send in a modest donation. We all have things we could donate like bars, machine heads, tuners, strings, cables, pedals, CDs, DVDs, cassettes, tab, books, pickguards, bridges, tailpieces, pick ups, capos, tubes, etc. And we all buy that stuff. So we could donate stuff and just pay the postage, and we could get stuff and give a donation of, say, half the value. I know that for each of us it's penny ante, but a lot of ante adds up for the forum.

I'd be willing to stump up since I hog so much space ! But Darryl, this would cost YOU big time ! Difficult to send stuff internationally - how about a "contributing membership" like the F.D.P. ? "Seniors" (OK-Old Geezers) like West, HoboKen and me would get a special rate.

Another suggestion - how about a T-shirt fund raiser, or would that raise some sand over at Fender ? Guitar prints ? Beer coasters ? etc. etc. I'd be willing to muck in.

Hey, I had a tee shirt printed up that had the Guild logo and stated "Guild Guitars", "Handmade in an Otherwise Imperfect World"..."1952-1995". I thought it might get a comment at the Fender booth at the Dallas Guitar Show. Nothing! I hate it when that happens.

How do you pay for this site Don? Is it free :?:

Coastie,

There is a guy named Mike in California who presently has a listing for Guild Tee shirts on Ebay. His Ebay screen name is 1shirtor3for2. He will print anything you want and is very easy to work with. He prints some great shirts (I like his Gibson shirts, not crazy about the guitars though) and has a variety of colors. He knew nothing about Guild, so I sent him the logo and told him that he really needed to put "Made To Be Played'' on them. I had him put the 1952-1995 on a black one.

Yes, it does cost money to keep the forum up & running. How do I pay for it? I work!

My plan was/is that I would eventually have another site (similar to Hans') for my parts & gear, which is nothing more than a hobby business right now. And use sales generated from that to pay the bills here. Things seem to move along much slower when you actually have a plan.

I've been an Allparts dealer for the last few years, but have been attempting to pick up a few other "new" product lines, hoping to be able to offer my guitar playing friends a useful range of gear & accessories. Manufacturers seem to love to talk with me about it, but when it comes to dealing with their area reps (which would be my suppliers), they don't exactly like to return calls or emails if you're not already a mega-store.

Anyway...I've run a Guild discussion forum for a little over 5 years now & haven't had need to ask for financial help. I DO like the idea of a parts collective, or something that could be a potential benefit to all the members! I probably wouldn't turn down offers of support, but I haven't put any thought into how to manage a system that could be visible here so there would be no question that it's all above board. I'm not in it for profit...just fun & a love of the guitars!

Don:

Thank you for all that it takes to keep this up and going. I know it's not simple, it takes a lot of time, and every now and then you must feel that you're an unpaid servant to a universe of Guild fanciers.

For my part, I can't express enough appreciation. The collective knowledge, the willingness to share, the sense of community - these are just not possible to pull together out of thin air. It takes, as you say, years of work. And that's been your work, from which I and 288 others (so far) get continuous benefit.

I'd be perfectly willing to cough up a bit of cash to keep you on the air - if ever you find the burden too much, please don't be even remotely embarassed to sing out and ask us. I know I'm not alone.

Cheers,

I am willing to chip in as well. This is one of the better forums I have been in, I think because it is realatively small.

I Love it.

Here is a true funny for you: a couple of days ago my wife yelled at me that my guitar was too loud!! I was not playing the Bluesbird, I was playing the '74 D-25 acoustic!!!

Got to love those Westerly Guilds!!!

Lets Talk Guild Funding

Somewhere thru all the smoke in this site I had a vision. I think kicked off by the Guild Guitar Porn bit.

How about the Guild Geezer's American Idol, well, International Idol competition, 20.00 entry fee along with an MP3,

I'd be willing to donate some of my junk for prizes. Pretty complicated with the categories, panel selection , award ceremonies, thank you speeches and all I know.

Ya never know, maybe some of the Martin & Gibson guys would stop by, A couple Taylor fellas would probably be allright.

The Ibanez crowd showing up in any meaningful numbers might not be a good thing.

Handicapping might make things simpler, maybe the guys that are good could play left handed & the pros play with mittens or something. Just to make it fair.

I'd be willing to chair the rules committee.
