Hey all,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but the heel on my '72 F-312 has crumbled away to almost nothing. It's my understanding that the heel is only cosmetic and has nothing to do with the structural integrity of the guitar, but it's unsightly to me, and I'm interested in replacing it. Have any of you replaced a guitar heel?

Thanks!

Hello songsmith7,

I assume you're talking about the little piece of celluloid covering the heel of your F-312. It can be easily replaced. It's a very common repair for people working with older guitars.

Great, Hans, thanks! Yes, I was referring to the cap.

Can you recommend how/where I can purchase one, or otherwise have it done?

Much appreciated,
Jan

Hello Jan,

Replacing the heelcap on an acoustic is one of those things that you could probably do yourself. The problem would be getting a piece of celluloid.
I'm not sure where you would be able to get celluloid in the US.
Maybe the best place to ask would be a guitar repair person.

Good luck!

Thanks guys,

I ordered from the site, Mr. P, and that should take care of it.

Many thanks,
Jan
