Okay so I received the 1962 X-175 that I bought on ebay. The guitar is visually everything I hoped for. The action was a little high, but i adjusted that to my liking and it plays nice too. BUT it sounded anemic next to my 1953 X-350. Both pickups sounded very dead. I love the sound of my X-350 but it weighs a ton and I don't like the longer scale, so this X-175 was going to be it's replacement.
I took the geeetar to my local tech and he could find nothing wrong with it, but he said it had "dual-pot" tone controls. He removed the original wiring harness (all still soldered together) wired in a new single volume and single tone pot. Put two dummy pots in the extra holes and "voila" it now sounds bright and lively. Has anyone else "modified" their controls this way? Or maybe mine was defective...
