Hey gang, I am still trying to score another Guild to join the D35s sitting by my easy chair. There are a couple on eBay right now that have piqued my interest... a late 90s (98 or 99) flamed maple D30 that looks absolutely beautiful, and a beautiful '74 mahogany D25. I have heard good things about the D25s (and played one 30+ years ago, when I bought my '72 D35). I expect that the maple will be much noticeably heavier... but how is it's sound going to compare to mahogany? Anyone care to express an opinion? Thanks, Dave

The shaped back models like my D-25 are significantly heavier than the flat back models like my D-40. I assume the weight difference is in the laminated back.

I don't know how many sheets of veneer are used to make the shaped back, but I have assumed that the layers of wood and glue are heavier than the flat back with braces.

I like the tone better on my D-40, but the D-25 projects better and is apparently louder.

I say just buy as many as you can!!!
