I have a 1957 A-50 in good shape. Can anyone tell me what this guitar might be worth? I bought it in 1970 and the store mistakenly put it in a Chet Atkins Tennesseean case (6119) AND there is a product card identifying the serial number of that Gretsch - 17896 - which dates the case from 1956.

Hello Bobby,

Can't really help you with the value of your '57 A-50; need to hold the guitar in my hands for that.

Wanted to post a remark re. the date of your case.
In 1956 there was no Chet Atkins Tennessean Model yet. It was introduced a couple of years later. With that serial number it could as well be a guitar from 1967, which would make more sense when we 're talking about a Gretsch Tennessean. Actually the kind of case (covering and lining) should tell us right away if we're talking about a '50s or a '60s Gretsch case.

By the way, what's the serial number of your Guild A-50?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
