97 Bluesbird - pickguard and bottom strap button

Hi there. First time to this site and first time Guild owner.

I recently purchased a clean black 97 Bluesbird off of Ebay. I wanted a Blues 90, but did not see any black ones and the one I purchased had a nice clean finish. It was not without issues though -- the binding was peeling away from the neck at the nut on both sides and horizontally at the neck pickup. A guitar tech fixed that.

However, the bottom strap button popped out the first time I attached a strap. I understand from the Fender Forum that this happens quite a bit and most people modify the tapered hole to fit a strap lock. I was amazed to see that the strap button appeared to be held in with glue.

I would like to add a pickguard to protect the guitar from my pick strokes. Does anyone know who sells pickguards that fit these guitars? Do the Stew Mac Les Paul styles fit?

Also, I saw a post where the person asked whether drilling a hole in the binding for the pickguard post affected the long term life of the binding. Not sure whether anyone responded to that portion of the post.

Thanks much for the help!
