Nope, I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do
you? So to ensure we never offend anyone, particularly
fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no
longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random
searches of 80-year-old women with metal hips, little kids, and Bill Gates, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone lest they be guilty of profiling.

Darryl, Are you going to publish the answer key to the quiz. Appears there a quite a few folks might have a bit of trouble with some of the questons.

Saw a very interesting German editorial today concerning the very same issue.

Article was two years old but worth reading. I'm guessing a bit too political for a relatively new member in this forum to post.

my sister had her small crochet hook confiscated while at LA International Airport (it was an antique bone crochet hook, an heirloom, never retuerned to her even though she filled out all the paperwork, but I digress) while the lady in front of her in the boarding line walked right through with two 16" long bamboo skewers - in her hair!

Much of this activity is known as "closing the barn door after the horses got out."

Jeff,

In regards to the answers to #12. I suppose I should let the cat out of the bag and tell you that my legal name is Rasheed Abdullah West R Lee Muhommed Hakeem. Every time they try to profile me though, all they see is a big nose!

Every once in a while as I contemplate the current "Politically Correct" language restrictions, the hit tune "Ahab the A Rab" comes to mind.

Always the same line comes to mind: "Ahab the A-Rab, chief of the burning sands. Ridin thru the desert on his camel named Clyde." with some kind of yodel, Tarzan vocal sounds mixed in for a couple bars to imitate Arab speech. My how times have changed.

Anyone recall who wrote that tune. Jerry Reed comes to mind but I don't think that's right. Think there was a similar tune "Guitarzan" by the same "Artist".

Wasn't all that great a tune, but it'd be some kind of fun to have it revive & hit the airways for a few weeks.

Nope, it was Ray Stevens. http://www.raystevens.com/SongLyrics/AhabLyrics.html

Good Lord, he's still at it !! check out "Osama yo Mamma"

Wonder where Ray hides.

Here's what I found on the net: "First recorded in 1962 by Ray Stephens, with the best-known version by Kinky Friedman, the song begins: “Let me tell you about Ay-hab, the Ay-rab/The Sheik of the Burning Sands.”

And don't forget Dylan's song with "Captain A -Rab" in it: "I was riding on the Mayflower when I thought I spied some land...."

and who could forget that no-good cheating Arab wrestler "The Sheik"? He always had some dirty tricks up his sleeve for the likes of Haystacks Calhoun, Bobo Brazil, etc.

Criminy,

Discussion thread sweeps from Profiling, to tasteless pop songs and then finishes up with the Wrasslers Haystack Calhoun and Iron Sheik.

Is this a common pattern? I'm feeling a bit light headed.
