Does anyone know anything about this guitar? Heard a young man playing one tonight, and GAS reared its ugly head immediately.

Found these two online - aren't they pretty? Looked like a dream to play, sounded just fine. Made in Italy. But don't those look like fat versions of Guild's Mickey Mouse single-coils?

I'm intrigued - any Guild-qualified reviewers of this guitar out there?

Thanks

It's a handsome beast. The one in the center picture doesn't have a pickguard. Were the photos taken at various times, or are they different guitars?

Ahh.h..h! How silly of me.

It does look wonderfully sixties-ish.

Oh, and I have no idea about the pickups.

Time for me to pack it in.

I wonder if the pickguard was added - playing bass with a pick in the 60s was unusual - and if one did, they would use a felt pick.

Also, I don't recall ever seeing a bass with a zero fret.
Anyway, nice basses.

Those are a good value. I like hollowbody basses with single coil pickups a lot generally. I think all of the Vox basses were bolt on, which is good from the perspective of not having to worry about it needing a neck reset.

I've heard those pickups are OK but the Vox bass afficianados tend to prefer the hotter chrome covered pickups. I haven't compared them myself.

It's probably short scale, 30" or so like a Hofner. I have a Kustom bass which is kind of similar (30.5"), it has DeArmond single coils, a chrome "nut" (really more of a string guide) and a zero fret. With LaBella flats, it sounds like a good Hofner. I find those shorter scale basses a lot of fun to play.

Thanks, all. Great information.

Yes, it's a short scale - that's what first drew my eye to it on the stage. Not a huge stretch from the long scale on my old jazzbox. It looked like a very comfortable machine, it was just lovely and it had a good round sound.

Very intriguing.
