Hi everybody,

Is there anybody who can help me with a good quality photo of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings made during a live performance. I'm looking for a photo taken during the second half of the '90s when Gillian was playing a Guild guitar. If you have something or if you can direct me to a photographer who has made some, I would very much appreciate that.

Thank you!

Nothing real high quality that I saw though. There could be more.

yeah, I heard she played a D-25, but she didn't have it when I saw them about 3 years ago.

Her & David doing "Dear Someone" on the "Down From The Mountain" concert has become one of my favorite songs of all times. Gillian, David on his '30's Epiphone, John Hartford on the fiddle and I can't think of the mandolin player's name right now, but wow

I went right out and bought the DVD of the concert :D It was at the Ryman in Nashville, with all the bands who collaborated on the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou?", which I also have the DVD and CD soundtrack for.

When I was at Elderly one day I bought "O Sister", a women of Blugrass album, pretty good really.

Thanks guys,

Yes, there are pictures of her with the Gibson all over the place but she did play a dark stained top D-25 for quite a while, so there must be some photos around.

Sincerely,

Hans,

I saw Ryan Adams, Gillian and David at a concert in the late 90's in Nashville. For the life of me i cant remember what she had (this was before my Guild obsession took effect) but i will look through my pictures tonight. I do know Ryan was playing his trusty D25 which he has played for years and still does with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway sticker on it.

Around the late 90s, was when she was hanging out with Ryan Adams alot, and playing on his records and gigging with him

he has a couple of D25s i think, the one with the Indy sticker and i think one more thats exactly the same (without the sticker) and theres a picture of him i have where he looks like he has a black one

so it might have been his she was playing, how did you see her with it before and did you notice this sticker on it Hans??

Sugarmountian,

You seem to be a RA fan. Good to see you on here. Ive seen him 5 times in concert and great everytime. Once with Whiskeytown. I currently gig a full RA set list. Relating to Guild, the Heatbreaker album cant be beat...all acoustic...all guild...all good.

Hans,

Ive got a couple of things for you here. Im sure with your researching abilities youve ran up on this stuff but here it is anyway.
Here are two pics of Gillian with what i can best tell is a Guild...am i right to think there both D25's? The one on the left is from Austin City Limits in 1997 and the right is from Merlefest in NC dated to 1997.

These are two sources for the pictures...the first is the photographer from her 1997 Austin City Limits show where she played a Guild. The other is a photographer that used to have a bunch of photos from Merlefest, more specifically 1997 Merlefest where she had a Guild.

Scott Newton for Austin City Limits

jim@carolina.cc JAMES MORTON - Merlefest Photos

Heres a link to a video of her and David at the Opry...or prob the Ryman in Nashville. I think the same D25 is used.

Thanks kentukblue,

Did see the Merlefest '97 photo but I never saw the one from Austin City Limits. That's a good lead! Let's see if we can find the photographer.

Thanks again!

Hans.

Thanks for hanging around here. Watching you receive something from this site for a change makes me smile.

Nice bunch of friends you have here.

You might be interested to know I loaned your book to Smitty here at the local shop. He's selling Guilds now, I figured he might be interested & he surely was.

Do you have any hard copies left, just in case I don't get it back. I expect it's been passed around a bit.

Hello Jeff,

You might be surprised to hear this but I probably get more from this site than you would think. For me, being able to do research and reach hundreds of people from all over the world, this is what the internet is all about. I take the negative stuff like 'spam' for granted.

I love it!

Sincerely,

whats the photo for Hans??, another book?

Yup, but since it's for an official publication, I need to get a photo from a known photographer; I cannot simply 'steal' something from the internet.
And obviously the photo needs to be of such a quality that it can be used for printing purposes.

Sincerely,
