Use of Nitro cellulose lacquer on the Starfire family.

Hi fellows Guilders,

I'm planning to purchase a Starfire (probably a II, or a IV)
I've read some of them have a PU finish, some nitro lacquer.

How could I know about the guitar's finish using just the year of production?
