The auction for this cool Hagstrom Impala on eBay ended recently:

http://tinyurl.com/2s6t43

It has a crazy push-button pickup switching system that's similar to that found on the old Guild X-350s:

http://www.ggjaguar.com/x-350.htm

Are they the same? Did Hagstrom get it from Guild?

When did the Hagstrom/Guild relationship relationship begin? Lots of Hag hardware on Guilds:

bridges
tremelos
other switching schemes (the Thunderbirds are very similar to the Hagstrom IIs and IIIs of the same period.

Was there any vice-versa? e.g. Hagstrom using Guild stuff?

Hello SledDawg,

Maybe you should have a closer look at the push-button switches on the X-350/375 and the switches on the Hagstrom Impala. They're not at all similar other than that they are switches in a row.
Of course there was a Guild - Hagstrom connection but that doesn't go back further than the early '60s.
The switches on the Hagstrom were actually the result of a connection between Hagstrom and several Italian manufacturers.

The push-button switch on the Guild X-350/375 was inherited from the Epiphone company in the early '50s.

So, there were several connections between musical instrument manufacturers, but we shouldn't mix them up!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
