Hello shakin n sc,

At first sight it looks somewhat like an M-75CS but your guitar has some features that are not found on a regular M-75CS.
Did you already remove the back panel to see if there is a label glued on the inside of the guitar. If there is, the model designation should be written on it. Maybe you could let us know and by the way ..... what's the serial number?

Sincerely,

hans, there is no label, the serial # is 53166. a lil more info for you: the pickups and mounting rings are not original nor are the knobs, and it also has a pickguard, but i was unable to fit it to the new pickups without cutting it, which i would rather not do! i will try to get a pic of the knobs and guard and post it so you can see them. is the m-75cs a rare model? i have been looking on the internet and checking ebay, and have not seen another like it, thanks for the help, john

Hello John,

Yes, I was aware that those parts were not original but the main thing that bugged me was the fact that there was no binding around the top of the body.
So the main question is: Was there ever a binding around the top?

Here's what a regular M-75CS would look like.

This one was made after 1972, so it has the phase switch and master-volume, which the earlier models didn't have.

Sincerely,

I wondered that too.

It does not look like it had binding, the edges where the binding go are too rounded for binding too have been there, and as far as I can tell it is the original paint. The neck does have binding on it. I have seen the model you posted, and always assumed that was not the model I have due to it not being bound. Could they have offered that model without binding?

Interestingly the body looks a lot like a 1980's Brian Setzer slab solid body Bluesbird. Does the guitar have a arch top or is it flat?

Well, I guess Guild could have made it but to the best of my knowledge, they never offered it like that. Would love to see some better detail pictures.
Can you do some of the back with the neck joint, maybe the inside of the control cavity?

Thanks John,

The control cavity looks good and the front picture looks good as well.
When I look at the back picture I can't help but thinking that it's not an original finish. It could be the quality of the picture but I don't think so.
It also looks like some sort of metallic finish which would be highly unusual for Guild.

There is something else that bugs me but I would like to investigate that first before I print it.
I'm not saying it's not a Guild. It probably is but I don't believe the finish is original. Without holding the guitar I cannot say anything definitive about it.
Obviously I've never seen the model without the top binding so that's all very exiting. Let me think about it for a while!

If it's not too much trouble could you show me a photo of the back of the headstock? Would like to see the tuners and the serial number.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

While we're waiting for a post of the headstock, can I ask a question???
Are these "pots" in this picture?

No joke Hans. I don't know anything about the electrics yet, I just read bits and pieces and I read that folks swap these out and the pickups and such. Just trying to learn a bit.

Thanks

I'm wondering if the binding was removed & the body edges were rounded when the refinish was applied. People do that sort of thing. If so, thanks for rescuing this one!
