I bought my B301A in 1998 from a small shop that had advertised it in the recycler for $249.

It was painted the ugliest thick metallic brown-green. It was close to hideous. When my wife saw it, she was doing everything she could to push me toward a Squire P-bass. But with the Guild name on the headstock I knew what I had.

I stripped off the paint and finished it in a clear lacquerand it looks pretty darn good these days. The truss rod cover says B-301, but the body is ash and the neck is maple, so it is really a 301A.

This bass had been modified bofore I got it with the addition of a DiMarzio Model One humbucker in the neck position. The original Guild pickup was moved to the bridge. While it may not be original, it sure is mighty with that big humbucker on it. A sound that would make Jack Bruce drool.
