Dred & Scott, (Mere Image) at the coffeehouse last night.

One old boy said to me as he was leaving "I'm from coal mining country, and when you did that song about Meulenburg County (Paradise by John Prine) it brought tears to my eyes".

That was worth more to me than what was in the musician's tip jar...

I didn't pick up on that, GM, I should re-phrase that : Marc & Scott.

Actually, it was a bad decision...

Pictures make me wish I'd been in the neighborhood with a hankering for java that night. :)

Muhlenberg County...Kentucky
Not to be all corrective but its "Muhlenberg" county...haha..jk. Its so funny how many places ive been outside of the state where ive heard "Paradise" being played. Of course me and my family usually act like idiots when they start the chorus. That song is a real lament song for a lot of folks from my parents and grandparents generation...almost every family in this area has had someone lose their life in the mines, not to mention that the whole coal culture (which included good paying jobs) just dissapeard in this county. One of my earliest memories is my mother singing it to me as a child.

nice, kentuck, but the DV-52 is slightly nicer tonally and a bit more balanced, hard to describe. Heck, you know what it sounds like, you have one! But the D-25 has a deeper bottom end which is nice when playing without a bass player.

Sorry for misspelling Muhlenburg, I'll try not to get that wrong again

Do I still get invited over when John Prine comes to dinner again? :D

And Dred's DV52 is "one of a kind"! I always got the impression from the song, that the mining done there was strip mining, not underground. Learn something everyday. Unfortunately, I've forgotten most of it.

Jeez louise, Kentuck, I did it again  "I'll commit "Muhlenberg" to memory, what's left of it anyway.
