I'm trying to ID the body wood used on Guild S-284 Aviators. It's definititely not the optional maple body on this one. It would be the standard wood.

Looks like mahogany or poplar to me.

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks, hideglue. I thought poplar most likely, but the raw wood showing had aged so dark that I thought it looked like mahogany.

Mark, the only bare wood I could find was a tiny 1/4" x 3" chip inside the back cover plate.

All I've seen were (still are) poplar

Exactly! With a little more than 750 instruments made over a 4-year period I think we could say they were quite 'pop'lar. Except for the maple ones, which were 'heavy-as-hell'!
