The latest edition of Newsweek magazine (the November 19, 2007 issue) is a retrospective of 1968. There are many current photos of the newsmakers of that year. One of those photos is a recent full-page B&W of the Smothers Brothers. Tommy's D-55 SB is prominently displayed, with the headstock blocking Dick's face! :D

I mentioned in a previous thread that Tommy's was the first Guild I ever noticed, and it's one of the reasons I own a D-55 today. I might frame this photo.

Yessir, it's right here, on line, in black & white.

Direct link is a bit slow, but it's pic # 6 here:

From "NEWSWEEK"
"Faces of a Fiery Year
Nigel Parry's recent portraits of the people who defined 1968"

Internet is just the grandest toy ever invented. Amazing !!!

Wow. When I was a kid, long before I had heard of Guild, I would watch them on TV and used to think that was the most gorgeous guitar I'd seen. Still think it's one of the most gorgeous.

Hey Guildmark,

If you saw the shows at the time you might find it interesting to know that the D-55 he's holding in that photo is not the same guitar; that's the second one he got in the '70s.
The guitar he played during the '60 is pictured in this photo:

Thanks, Hans! That's a cool picture.

I kinda figured it might not be the same exact guitar. In fact, I was wondering if it might be a new Tacoma-made? The round label inside looks too well written to be a Vintage Guild. :)

Maybe you're right! Photo is not all that clear though.
