I have an M75, a 1975 according to the serial number. It’s the model that has both master volume and phase switch (Mark 3 ??). I bought it used, from a shop. It came with a Guild case, but the case is a bit deeper than the guitar’s body. It fits the outline of the guitar very well, it's only the depth that's not quite right. When the case is closed and carried, the guitar flops around slightly.

Were earlier versions of the M75 deeper-bodied? If so, could this case be a leftover, made for an earlier body? Any & all thoughts welcome.

Hey Ross,

There were two body versions of the 60's/70's M-75.

The original ones were hollow, and then they also made them solid (M-75S).

The hollow bodies are a bit deeper then the solids, sounds like you have a hollow body case.

Here's an hollow M-75; (I'm ignoring the bridge block!)

You can tell the hollow models as they're bound top and bottom.

Here's an solid M-75;

They are only bound on the top.

Both these models came with chrome or gold hardware.

They also had the matching basses in hollow and solid styles but that's a different thread. (Right frono?)

Please feel free to correct me Hans if I have strayed from the gospel!

Your solid-body is virtually identical to mine, except mine has a clear finish, not stained. I like the backdrop, too! :)

If Guild was making two models with near-identical shapes (hollow and solid), perhaps they made only one size of case to accommodate both models.

My situation isn’t critical. I simply put a couple of rags in the case to cushion the guitar and keep it from moving.

My hollow body is a bit loose in the original case.
