Wow. If Django himself could have heard this guy, he would probably have had "ring-finger/pinky envy."

Didn't anyone else notice the mistake in the 75th measure?

Third note: He played an B# instead of an E#.

It ruined the whole piece for me.

"After a few rare transitional "bouche ovale" models with the old 12 fret, 648mm scale ..., the longer 670mm scale was introduced and became standard for the rest of Selmer's production time. Django immediately and eagerly switched to the oval hole model and played it almost exclusively ... until he passed away in 1953."
From lutherie.net

"The mahogany neck has the flat cross-section to the rear encountered on classical guitars and this, together with a fingerboard that measures 1 7/8 inches at the nut, results in a feel quite different from the average steel-string acoustic.

Body size- 12-fret neck joint - Scale length 25 1/4” - Nut width 1 7/8” - Body length 18 1/2” - Lower bout 16” - Upper bout 11 1/4” - 14:1 ratio geared nickel-plated tuning machines..."

Couldn't listen myself - it came up asking for a password :(

I'd be thrilled just to play the rhythm part.

What is the guitar's scale length and nut width?

I don't know, but did you see the bridge and hole width on that sucker? Gotta be some kinds player guitar.....like the piano, ya know?

Thanks Russ, that was great.

You can try the same vid at this location: http://youtube.com/watch?v=J_pfmrj0rxc Hope that helps..
In searching, looks like he plays with Tommy Emmanuel, too. Pretty good company!

Yup works. Time togive up any ideas of learning to play the guitar - I'd need another 50 years and I don't reckon I'll get them :(

West,

Does the larger hole increase volume? What does the hole's weird shape do?

hf
On typical acoustic flat top guitars, I believe that a larger sound hole increases treble response (such as on a Tony Rice dreadnaught). I don't know about the effect, if any, of the shape. I do believe that these guitars are braced very differently from a typical flat top, so that may effect the sound hole shape and will have a major effect on tone as well.
