Don't believe me?

Track 1: Quarteto Jobim-Morelenbaum, (led by the son of Jobim.)

And the most awesome piece of music I've heard in awhile.

Track 2: Cores by Dalata

I cannot find an exact translation for "Puta".
Although, some of us know that it has an obscene
meaning in Spanish.

mayo of course, means "May".

Put together, it's the name of the record label.
Their records are really fantastic. I have their
New Orleans Brass CD too.

Aha! I spelled it wrong. It's Putumayo, not Putamayo.

Putumayo is a region in Colombia. I think it's
the name of a tributary of the Amazon too.

I believe everything on the Putumayo label is outstanding!

They specialize in world music, ethnic and national folk music and common songs of various regions. I have a Celtic collection, and I've heard a Mediterranean, Italian, Caribbean and a Middle Eastern collection. They have all been wonderful!! They aren't Hollywood arrangements of some generic "style" but genuine recordings of local musicians playing stuff they know intimately. Major thanks and kudos to Putumayo! And thanks to Marc Ellis for starting this thread!

I've got two Putamayo CD's. New Orleans Brass & Samba Bossa-Nova. If anything, the New Orleans Brass collection is even better than the Samba Bossa Nova volume.

They are both superb. Not one boring moment on either CD.

It's nice to know record companies like Putamayo can still exist these days.
