Washington Post article is here although you might have to register to read it. The new company's web site is here.

Basically they are making electic guitars with hand wound PUs and oddles of wiring options. The wiring controls seem to be at the coil level so you can have single coil, or double coil humbuckers and play with phase. Active or passive. There is reference to "patents applied for" but two things seem innovative to me. First, they have thought about the user interface so it is pretty easy to set things up and then only have to worry about one or two controls in a performance situation. Second, they have got level controls so that the output level is the same pretty much regardless of what settings are being used. it will be interesting to see whether the company survives and thrives.

Interesting, but I don't know enough about electrics to comprehend what they're doing. For something rather different, have you seen these aluminum and chrome archtops from Normandy Guitars? http://www.normandyguitars.com/
They just opened a retail shop/workshop here in Salem, Oregon. Met the owner, Jim Normandy, and played one. Very cool (again, this is coming from an acoustic guy) with nice tone.
Cheers,
