Sometimes I could listen to this song over and over, or as one of the comments says:

"This is the real stuff, as fine as single malt, and? enduring as stone."

Indeed. 8)

Never heard of him......Oh My, But Now, I'll certainly remember him. Likely I'll even get his c.d.
Sandy, That was Fantastic! That song sounds great the first time and gets better each time you listen! Mighty evocative and thouightful lyrics! Oh yea, I'll seek out his music.
...." she was a rare thing, fine as a bees wing, and I would'nt want her any other way"
Ive got to remember that one.

Ian, Our former N.Z "guitardude"......I'm thinking you'll like this one too!

since he's based on the west coast here I've had many opportunities to see him up close at local functions...never a bad show. :D :D :D

ok, Ian, here's a few more you might like:

showing off his famous hybrid picking style:

live performance, poor vid, great song:

One of my favorite tunes of his, couldn't quick find a vid of him, this is him performing and somebody added an odd video, but it's such a great song:

and here he is showing off his straight fingerpicking skills on a bit of a different style tune:

oh, heck, one more:

This should keep you busy for a while...

ps: just had to throw this in the mix...this is what he plays when he's not playing his Lowden and puts on his 'electric band' hat...

Thanks, Jane, for posting the further Richard Thompson clips. "How Will I Ever Be Simple Again" has been one of my favorite songs of all for well over 20 years. I had thought maybe I should mention it in the thread about songs that makes our eyes leak, as it's one that often has that effect on me. I'm dismayed that there are no other vids available of him performing it; I've looked bunches of times.

Here's another vid of him doing a cover that's entertaining:

He does that one in his 1000 years of popular music show...if he brings that one to your area it's well worth seeing. :D

SG, you might not recognize the name right away, but you might remember Fairport Convention. That was the band he started with now ex-wife Linda. They put out a few albums as a duo while they were still together, and after FC broke up. RT has a vast body of work by now, but the good news is that it's all good. 8)

I Found that one out when looking for his 'Bees wing' song up on 'Chordie. It was there,
(drop D,capo 3) as were ALOT more of his songs. You're not wrong, a Vast amount of work for sure. Thats where I found out he was from Fairport Convention,' But yes, that one hit me from the blind side, when I saw that I thought...Ohhhh yeaaaaaa, ... HIM.
Just reading through some of the songs on Chordie, Its easy to appreciate his songwriting skills. I intend to listen to a few of those Youtubes Jane left there, and i will certainly be getting a FEW of his C.Ds.
Really enjoying this guy, Thanks again

I played some electric RT tracks (Don't Tempt Me, Crawl Back) for my son a while back... he thought the guy had anger management issues.

I've only seen him perform once (solo, not with his band) & I was struck by how funny he was . . . maybe getting out all his angst via his poignant songs frees him up to be light-hearted at other times.

Dimming of the Day, & Meet on the Ledge, are a couple of my personal favorites.
