The USS Iowa (BB-61) is on her way to be permanently moved to the Port of Los Angeles to serve as a museum and memorial to battleships. If any of you remember; in April 1989, an explosion wrecked her #2 gun turret, killing 47 sailors. The cause was never really explained. The Navy blamed one of the turret's crewman, an independent investigation claimed over ramming of the powder bags in to the breach of the 16 inch gun could have caused a similar explosion. May they all RIP.
This pic is shot in 1984 at a firepower demonstration. All nine of her 16-inchers blasting away. Fair wind and a following sea to the "big stick".

This shot gives some scale as to the enormous size of that ship.
