Cool shot from way back courtesy of Fretboard Journal. James seemed to know his way around a barre chord.

The Martin is a C-2 archtop. This one has a soundhole, but many have f-holes instead.

Not surprisingly, there's a thread over at UMGF from a while back. Turns out the guitar is '32 or '33 C-1, the difference being the the C-1 just said "Martin" on the headstock. Both models were all f holes by 1934.

You learn something new every day. 8)

Interesting. Martin describes it as a C-2 in this (http://www.martinguitar.com/catalogs/OMJeffDaniels.pdf). It is an advertisement for their new OM Jeff Daniels. Jeff Daniels' original Martin was a 1934 C-2 conversion.

Well, I guess that settles it Jonathan! Who would know better than the proverbial horse's mouth?

Sandy, I still wouldn't put anything past those folks on the Martin forum. They know their stuff, just like we know our Guilds. 8)
