Does Contain nostalgia!

This is NOT the top news story of the day, but it reminds some of us LTGers how fast time goes by. The Jetsons are 50 today. Interesting facts posted in the article.......the series was on for only one season ( :?: ) . WOW, thank goodness for reruns!

Wow. I think that's the first time I've watched that opener in color.

Thanks for the minute of nostalgia, Toni.

Great post Toni thanks! I think George worked for Spacely Sprockets and the dog was named Astro.

I tried to explain The Jetsons to my kids when they were younger - when I finally got a chance to show them the actual show, they loved it!

I'm surprised there was only one season...seems like more than that, but we were watching the re-runs onSaturday morning cartoons.

Great post, Toni. I was a fan.

But...

"The Smithsonian magazine blog paleofuture called the show, "the single most important piece of 20th century futurism … that helped define the future for so many Americans today."

Any "trekkies" wish to comment?

I'm a huge fan of the cartoons from that era & earlier ones as well. It is surprising how few episodes were made of some of these shows which I remember so well.

My 4 year old Godson is way into Tom & Jerry at the moment - reruns are good indeed.

It was also the first show ever to be broadcast in color on ABC - TV.

Boy, do I feel old

For some reason I always liked his daughter Judy!

No warning necessary, it's all good....that's why it's called Miscellaneous. You're covered.

I was an editor for 16 years and I had an entire page of the publication set aside for Os & Es -- Odds and Ends. By another/inside name it was Miscellaneous BS.

And believe it or not, I never watched the Jetsons so I have nothing to contribute on that end. I think I was in a time warp then. 8)

Well, Dave, I'm a HUGE Trek fan.... anything Trek. But in all fairness, the Jetsons got there FIRST and besides..... Rosie is the precursor to Data..... the robot with human feelings or at least something close. I think the Jetsons paved the way. Gene Roddenberry just took it a couple of steps further and out of the "sitcom" realm.... which is exactly what needed to be done.

Glad you brought it up. One led the way, the other went where it needed to go (where no man had gone before).....

p.s. - Toni, Astro is MY favorite Jetson too!! :D

Betcha 99% of our membership could identify the theme song in 2 bars or less...we'll give Joe a pass on this one....
Thanks, Al.
I was otherwise preoccupied in September of 1962.

I seem to recall something about jumping out of airplanes for fun but no profit?
I could see as how maybe they didn't make the Armed Services Network standards of likely general recreational utility, having no historical track record to go by...

I don't know about "profit" but there was incentive. 8)

My dad always said theres no good reason to jump out of a perfectly good working airplane :)
BTW, astro is my favorite jetson too. I recall watching it in reruns as a kid. It was still funny 30 or so years later. :)
