6L6,
Avatars are uploaded thru the "User control panel" (upper right on screen)
Click on "Profile" and you will see an "Edit avatar" menu choice appear.

I think the Avatar has to be 100 x 100 (edit: nope... it's 125 x 125 pixels). Unlike images in posts, it can be directly uploaded... it does NOT have to be hosted on another photo hosting site.

Bill,
You motivated me to upload an avatar. Not sure it I like it, though. It's a cowbird egg sitting in a goldfinch nest.

I can't decide if I'm the cowbird or the goldfinch, or neither.

When I first saw your avatar, I was hoping that you knew what you had. That's great documentation on the nesting parasites that cowbirds are....those buggers!

*If you wouldn't mind sending it to me (larger size) via PM, I'd like to post it here locally to show Audubon folks what to look for when cowbirds are around. You would, of course, get full photo credit.

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks folks!

My avatar is a pic of a USAF Lockheed C-141B Starlifter aircraft. I have over 10,000 hrs logged flying them over my 23 yr career. Super plane that carried me through two wars and all over the world effortlessly.

Hats off to the brilliant engineers who designed and built them.

The pic was shot over Antarctica.

I'd be happy to Joe. It's on my home computer so it will have to wait until this evening.

(PS. I just couldn't bear the thought of watching a little goldfinch try to care for a big cowbird baby at the expense of her own babies, and perhaps her health. So .... <looks both ways> ... don't tell anyone .... I addled the egg).

I've heard of coddled, poached, and scrambled, but how do you addle an egg?

Shake it, don't break it. :)
