Okay,I'm anticipating some humorous responses.
Do keep in mind the issue is a serious one ! :?

Last week during a rehearsal my ' G ' string went dead.
I immediately replaced it with a new one from a full pack.
Within 2 days it went dead. Just a coincidence?
This time I replaced all strings with new ones.
Within 3 hours of playing... the 'G' string went dead.
I thought, " This seems very... unusual ? "

This issue with my ' G ' string is on my Taylor 910, while using
Elixir Nanoweb Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium gauge strings.
I would be pleased to hear from some of you folks as to
why this may be happening.
Thank you !! :)

By going dead what exactly do you mean? I don't use elixir string due to what I perceived as sounding great for a short time then 1 string always sounding flat compared to the the other strings quite quickly, I use phosphor bronze exclusively now...( not elixir ).

The brilliance,brightness,sustained ringing,loudness...
all were dramatically reduced by about 70% almost sounds
like a dull thud musical note. Don't know how else to describe it.

There's the problem, it's not a Guild. They are much more sympathetic to 'G' strings than Taylors, especially those with a G shield on the head stock. :D
Seriously, check where it comes over the saddle and make sure the windings aren't hitting it. Check the way it sits in the nut, too. Might just be a bad run of strings, as well.

Any time I've had problems with strings going dead it's ALWAYS the G string. However, they were dead and defective right out of the box. I got some RED strings and the G-string was a dull, thuddy mess from when I first put it on. Not sure why it would change from good to bad while on the guitar. It's always the G string.......

Try a different brand of string, even if it isn't a coated string.
See how long the different string lasts.
I agree with Bing on the nut or saddle as being a possibility.
Does the string sound dead when you apply a capo to the first or second fret?
In other words isolate the nut from the list of possibilities.
This test will let you know if the nut is involved.

Have you pulled the saddle out of the bridge lately?
If so, it may not be properly seated.

The neck angle could also have changed which will affect intonation.
You may want to have a Guitar Tech look at the guitar for you.

I'd like to help out but I just can't type with a straight face when discussing G strings, dead or otherwise. 8)

Yeah but if he posted it on a Taylor forum they'd tell him we're much more knowledgable about string problems.

That's "G" string problems, right?
