I spotted this Tawny Frogmouth at work the other day. The nest was in an adjacent tree
with 2 fledglings in it, I couldn`t get a decent shot of that with my phone camera, but look at those eyes !

Thanks John, it`s one of the perks of working in bushland, although I wasn`t
thinking that yesterday, mate, I nearly melted. I hope we don`t have many more
of those days, it was a scorcher !
Hi Darryl, yeah they do have great camoflage, it took me a few hours to notice it was there.
I saw the nest first so I figured it had to be nearby, so I scanned the surrounding trees and
there it was, directly above me looking like a branch.
They look like owls, but they are not. They are related to Nightjars.

Friends of mine recently returned from a month down under and showed me photos of a Tawny Frogmouth that they saw.
Masters of camo, they are.

For futher enlightenment, here's one now!

I'd never heard of one. But I'm not from Oz.

I Looked it up and found this amazing pic of their skull on wiki.

Interesting that Oz's call them Moreporks. We have Moreporks close by and it's delightful hearing them at night.
That's funny. That's what we call our politicans.

Moreporks ? I`m not familiar with that term for Tawny frogmouths, but hey, we learn something new every day.

Cheers Mate. Rob

So sez Wikipedia. I'm inclined to think though, and your comment supports it, that that is not correct.

They come out at night ?
Many political deeds are best comitted under cover of darkness, especially when it comes to garbbing more pork from the barrel.
Oops, hope I didn't get outside the political envelope.
