I met Dave a few times in the 70s, came across as a very warm and friendly human being. Take Five was the first "modern" jazz piece I ever heard when it hit the local radio waves around 1960.
RIP Dave.

RIP Mr. Brubeck & Thanks for all.
+1 , lots of good memories.
I remember him on the Ken Burns 'Jazz' doco., He came across as a well spoken, very humble, gracious man, that loved music all his life.

About 5-6 years ago I saw him receive an honorary doctorate from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, which was where he graduated from in the 1940's. (My daughter was getting her masters) Clint Eastwood, who is on the board of the Brubeck Institute, which funds the work of a rotating group of jazz musicians at UOP, spoke and presented it to him. Then the current students did a great version of Blue Rondo, which had Dave bopping in his chair.
A great man and musician. Take 5 was the first million selling jazz record.
