IMO there is a bit of a fanboy aspect to brand slamming…slammers are often disillusioned cheerleaders. Gibson has made scads of good guitars over the years. One possibly clunker year isn't gonna deprive anyone of a quality instrument provided they invest some proper effort into finding one.
I've played some "oddball" Gibsons—Marauders, RDs & the like—that were very well made and sounded darned good. Even a ~1972 SG with the flat neck angle…it certainly felt different to my SG Jr. but was still a valid guitar. Maybe the robo-tuner guitars will eventually catch on with players who don't care about Gibson tradition.
