I think that's an X-79, big Mike... Anyway, welcome aboard.
If I recall correctly, this one was modeled after one used by Twisted Sister in the '80s? I could very well be wrong about that though...
sure it is HD100157Can you give us the serial number branded into the back of the headstock, and we can try to date it for you.
that was great thanksWelcome to LTG! Yes, that's an X-80. A little info here:
X79 vs X80
For posterity. I used these as a lighting experiment. The red one is an X-79-3. The sunburst one is an X80. The X-80 is more or less a reverse of the X-79 body shape, but as you can see they're not exact mirror images. And one to hurt your head:letstalkguild.com

DISCLAIMER: With my apologies to Hans and Volume II. Let's kick this off with an email I received to The Guilds of Grot website in 2008. (It's a long read, so settle in!) Hello Kurt, It was a pleasure looking at your collection. It brings back a flood of memories. My dad is Gilbert Diaz, one...letstalkguild.com
NGD - Guild X80
This is why I drove up to Westerly. The seller lived in Westerly his whole life and worked at the plant as a teen. The story is that he bought this from a friend who worked at the plant. In speaking (writing, really) with Hans, we're not certain if the guitar left the factory as shown or...letstalkguild.com
New member! Guild x80 skylark?
Greetings! This is my first post here. I've been a long time fan of guilds but hadn't gotten to own a pre fender Guild. I always thought my first would be the D25...I love those...but something funny happened the other day, I stumbled on what I believe to be a 1985 x80 skylark. I have to...letstalkguild.com
I stand (sit) corrected! Thanks, guys!X-80!
Looks like 1985, Mike!sure it is HD100157
thanks chazmo! I appreciate it , what are these things worth these days, 2-3 mill? lolLooks like 1985, Mike!
I bought this from the Fret House in covina california, I used to go in there all the time and the guy was really cool he would let me play it whenever I went in to make sure it was still there. I would plug it into a small Mesa Boogie and the action and the sound was beautiful, I finally saved up enough money to buy it for $1200.00
GAD, out of curiosity, I own three X-79s but have never had a chance to play an X-80. What do you think makes the X-80 more playable? Body shape? Where the strap buttons are located?I find them to be much more playable than the far more popular X79s.
I think I will leave it to my kids when I die so they will have something to remember me by.....unless the value goes way up than forget the kids lolI have owned three X80s and still own two. I would expect to pay anywhere between $1000 and $1500 for an X80 in excellent condition today. As a collector I'd love to have the striped model (Don't recall seeing an X80 with that) but I imagine since it's no longer the late '80s that the design is not in high demand.
FWIW I think there were less than 200 X80s made which is a shame because I find them to be much more playable than the far more popular X79s.
cool, thanksI just got 2024 Vintage Guitar Price Guide, and it values the X-80 at $1125 to $1500, depending on condition.
