More of just a heads up. For anyone that was a fan of the HBO series Band Of Brothers and The Pacific, the third series from the same makers starts today on Apple+ (you get 3 free months w/ Prime...or a Samasung w/ FireTV. )

About to sit down and watch the first 2 episodes. Been looking forward to this for a while!

Pain: Immediately Jumping into really cold water.
Suffering: Sitting on the edge of the pool with your legs dangling in the cold water thinking this will help the final plunge less painful.
With this thought it occurs to me that I need to get off both this computer and my ass and get the day started.

I would rather be home, making stains.

Wondering if anyone's ever explored our own ability to make wood stains, a crappy idea.
I have modified existing stains in repairs, and sometimes it's just with color and pigment. But unless I have to match something or make it blend..... then here's your choice. Pick a color!!! Done!!

The referenced object in the photo is my first attempt at finishing. Learning a lot by making mistakes.
Default,
That's often how it's done.
When I assembled my electric guitar kit, I stained the neck and headstock a darker colour than the body, and immediately decided it was a mistake.
But boy, did I ever learn a lot by having to sand out the dark stain, re-mask the fretboard, and re-stain the neck the lighter colour to match the body.
Think twice-stain once is a lot less effort than the alternative.
Lesson learned.

That's why I started with kit guitars. After consulting with a friend, an all-maple guitar is, apparently, one of the more frustrating items to evenly finish.

Always spit-coat the wood before staining, otherwise you can get some really disastrous outcomes.... wood absorbs stain differently all over. Just saying.

Also, if this isn't terribly mundane..... our internet went out about 5 minutes after I turned the coffee on at 6:30am. So I logged into Cox on my phone. First it was fixed by 10:35am. Kinda specific on the time, then after that time went by and after my nap, it said, Fixed by 2:35pm. Okay.... so then happy hour because I was tired of reading and we gave up cable long ago so with only streaming it's reading a downloaded book, or just nothing. No TV. So then we got home and then it was 6:35 as the time we'd get it back. And it finally did. But 12 hours with no internet or TV or anything?? YIKES!! What a day!!:rolleyes:

Midnight Toker,
I came across this post a couple of minutes before the first episode started, so watched them both.
The reviews I've seen range from "Bravo!" to "Meh", which I think are, unfairly, a bit premature. The story and characters will, in my opinion take more time to develop, and because of my interest in WWII history, I plan to continue watching the series.
Curious to know your thoughts.

I say to myself, I need a neck template for a guitar project. I think, Stuart McDonald has one for x amount of money.
Then I remind myself, I have a ton of guitars, and a 3D printer. I can print a contour gauge and make my own danged neck templates.

I've enjoyed both episodes. As I sort of expected, this series jumped right into the fight head first w/ little to no character buildup or military training. I also expected it all to get pretty brutal as I knew going in these flying fortress crews and their daytime missions had some of the highest casualty rates of the entire war. Glad this series is being done just for the fact that those kids' sacrifices have gone largely unheralded while foot soldiers got most the lasting recognition. About the only place I would rather not have been in the entire WWII theater than a Fortress, is a German sub!! That was like a hair less than 5% survival rate!

I agree that the characters will all become very clear in no time, especially as we see them experience hardships and loss. I'm also sure there will be some side plots where they had to ditch and parachute behind enemy lines...and that will be yet another wild tale to tell. Can't wait for tomorrow. (y):)
