When I moved from NorCal to SoCal I had to find a new amp and guitar tech. The two top picks were Jack Spina and Chris's Guitar Shop in Pomona. I actually found a guitar tech local to me so haven't used either of these guys. Though I'll be taking my Tremolux to Jack later in the year. But everyone I spoke to gave them both, and especially Jack a big thumbs up. Hope this helps.

I don't know of any instrument repair in that area, but this guy is an incredible amp repair tech. He used to work on all my gear when I was in Ohio. He moved out to CA and made quite a name for himself. An excellent resource.

thanks for the tip. always good to have a few resources. especially as more folks retire. it's very similar in audio where it's harder to harder to find good techs to repair vintage stereo gear.

Thanks guys, and agreed on the above, I will keep this noted for possible future needs :)

I might swing by the instrument repair shop next time I'm in the area to suss it out. I generally do my own repairs, at least if its not onerous, but I would like a resource close by for those instances I don't have the skills, patience, time or all three :) Shipping all the way to FL or anywhere else for that matter from here in CA seems like unneccessary excessive costs added in, besides having to find shipping boxes and packing materials to boot.

There has to be competent guys in CA, even when it comes to work on Guilds.

Thought about it and said lemme see if they answer the phone first. I placed a call and lo and behold I spoke to the man!. Jack was initially curmudgeony, not pleasing at all, with simple curt yes answers to my questions. Got him to warm up and then we talked guitar repair and what I'm dealing with on my JF30-12, what he charges etc and we ended up talking for the last 40 minutes! Turns out he is an authorized warranty repair shop for Guild, (but he works out of his house) He worked at Fender in Corona for 35 years, doing inspections and setups on 30+ guitars a day.

But my braces, or neck resets he won't do, basically anything that is a pain in the ass he stopped doing, which is fine, thats his right and he's earned it at his age. SO I likely won't need his services, but is good to know he is a wealth of experience and knowledge for anyone else in Southern California, especially ones that won't do their own repair work.

I wonder if "the new Guild" under Yamaha will do in-house repairs? Maybe it's worth giving them a call?
