Can someone recommend a tuner upgrade that will not require drilling the guitar? There are a handful of posts from a couple of years ago about this but the links to the tuners are dead and the specific model and brand of tuner is vague.

Hello

Welcome to LTG

First - you could inform us of the spesific guitar - and what tuners are on it now.

After that it would be a lot easier to help you.

The OEM tuners look to be the Ping knock offs of Grover Mini-Rotomatic tuners.

It looks to me like the "real" Mini-Rotomatics would fit, but I have no firsthand knowledge, so best bet is to try a set, and make sure you can return them if the screw holes don't line up. Best price I could find is about $100 here.

Welcome to LTG!
Yes, the Westerly Collection guitars might have changed specs over time, so best posting a picture of the tuners in question. However I think the F-2512CE only came out in 2020. So the tuners should be any of those made in Asia tuners, a kind of Grover style mini tuners. Most probably made by any Chinese company for Guild.
But if you look carefully, those two pictures actually already show two different type tuners! They are not the same!

I upgraded the tuners on my F2512 as well. I went with Grover 18:1 minis.

Just make sure the screw TABs on the ones you buy match what's already on there. The TABs should come off the tuner chassis at about a 45 degree angle, not a right angle. (twocorgis link above is to a right angle TAB version.)

The recommendation that I have been making to those not wanting to redrill headstocks is the Hipshot open back tuners with the UMP plates. The UMP plates remove the need to drill the back of the headstock for screws, and the F2512, being a Far Eastern made guitar, should already have the 10 mm. tuner posts. You can use the enclosed tuners if you wish, but know that the enclosed tuners are 15:1 tuning ratio, while the open back tuners are 18:1, and are somewhat lighter. There are a number of tuner buttons available, from butter bean type to keystone type, and a few that are unique to Hipshot. In your case, you should take a trip through their website, and see if you can find anything suitable.

I've put Hiphots (with the Universal Mounting Plate or UMP) on a couple guitars, and I like them. The tuning ratio is 181; they don't require new screw holes being drilled; and they look sorta traditional -- similar to the old three-on-a-planks style.

But do they also make them for 12-string headstocks? Or can you just double them up?

It doesn't appear that they do. https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/guitar-tuning-machines

You could try using two sets of 6 in line tuners, but it would be expensive, and probably wouldn't look right either.

Thank you for all of your responses! Here is a photo of the tuners

@Ralf - I don't know that I can honestly tell which of the two pictures you included are the same tuners as the ones on mine. The darn things look the same to me.

Posting here again hoping that someone can offer some input on replacement tuners (specific brand and model) for my F2512CE.

Your tuners are like the tuners in my left picture above or the middle one below (well gold vs. chrome), the right tuners are very different if you compare them.
But I really don't know who made them. Often when you remove them you see the brand or part number stamped on the inside.
The footprint of the screw hole might be the same, not sure.

I inspected the link for the Grovers listed above and the screw hole doesn't look like a drop in fit. Other places I have found replacement tuners get pretty costly . I have a D2612 CE with the same tuners and while they are a little wanky to get in tune at first they seem to hold ok once you get it.
I've decided to live with it.
I'd love to know if you change them how it works out and the cost.

Have you adjusted them - you can firm up the turning by tightening the screw that holds the button/knob on - there's a spring washer that compresses.
