I found this advertisement, from 1955, in an old copy of Cadenza Magazine.

Christopher,
I wonder if some of our LTG experts can identify, the acoustic guitar. (I have no clue).

It looks like an electric archtop to me... I think I see a Franz pickup on there.

I do not know the model Johnny played in the photo, Tim.. I am eager to (hopefully, via this forum) discover what it is, though. I *do* know that Johnny had a "not-so-pleasant" affiliation with Guild over his (Guild-built) Johnny Smith Award guitar.

That's actually the cover of the 1955 Guild catalog, and the guitar must be an X500 Stuart. It could have been an X700 as well, but Guild didn't make them in 1955.

Nice link, Sandy. Do folks here actually own one of these? (more importantly, does anyone here actually have recordings of one of these - :D )[/quote:2y7pg04a]

I'm sure there's some X500 owners here, but not sure if there's any '55s amongst them. My '59's as close as I come, which is good enough for me. You should hear it when Pascal plays it!

We should establish the...

... "Guild Moments" ...

where classic Instruments / Models / Years are presented for posterity.
