Hello. I live in Japan. I recently got the Guild D-25 that I had wanted for a long time. I would like to confirm something about the 1973 Guild D-25. The top, sides, and back of my D-25 are all mahogany, and the back is arched. All paint is stain, not gloss. I've been doing a lot of research, but I've never seen a guitar with the same specs. Does anyone know the specifications of this guitar?

Welcome to LTG!
Is it possible the guitar was refinished?

Normally they would look like this: (this is a 1974 model with serial number 100xxx.)

Maybe you can add some pictures for us?

Hi Ralf.
The guitar's paint appears to be original and has not been refinished. The serial number is 924**, which is definitely 1973.

Welcome aboard, Toshi! Where are you in Japan? I spent two weeks in Shikoku years ago and loved my time there. Never made it anywhere near Tokyo...

Looks FANTASTIC, Yoshi. Congratulations.

On LTG, we normally call this a "transitional" model. How do you like it?

You have some binding separation happening on the bass back side of the box. You might want to look into repairing it and your repair person can tell you whether or not the finish is original. Your guitar looks a bit more "satin" than gloss, which could be what you meant in your original post (not "stain").

Dear Toshi,
I am not completely convinced that this is the original finish.
Reason: There is no finish over the rosette! Guild sprayed over the rosette! So I think the original finish was removed and the body was re-finished with either shellack or some satin lacquer.

Have a look at this example, which was owned by our member @twocorgis in the past, it has a 940xx serial number,

Also the back and sides and neck are very dark stained, on your guitar they are not stained.

But in any case, your guitar looks wonderful as it is!

either way, it look fantastic. and browner than most of the ones I see. No orangey tint I am used to seeing. Congrats!

Thank you everyone for the additional information.
I'm in Saitama, near Tokyo.
It's about 30 minutes from Tokyo.
Shikoku is a very nice place in Japan.
Udon is very delicious.

Add images. please look.
The tuner is close to the original, but has a gear cover.
It may have been replaced.
The neck and body are all satin finished.
The binding is peeling on both sides, so I will try to repair it.

Thanks for the info, Toshi! Someday I'll come visit Saitama, but I'm not in business with NEC anymore, so I don't know if or when that'll ever happen!

Good luck with your repairs, Toshi!!!! Your serial number definitely lands in 1973, which makes sense given your transitional D-25. I'm not at all sure about the finish; this guitar body may have been stripped, but the neck (certainly the back of the headstock) looks like the original gloss finish.
