I just acquired a 1988 Guild X160, Orange Sunburst with Guild Bigsby. It is a completely uncirculated guitar - looks like it was manufactured yesterday. I don't know much about the instrument, but it seems to have good build quality and a nice tonal voice. I contacted Guild for more information on the guitar such as the pickup specs, finish type, and place of manufacture, price when new, and if possible, current value. They were zero help - answered that they did not get involved in the used guitar market. Not very impressed with their lack of interest. Can anyone provide me any information on the guitar? I have digital pictures, but not sure how to attach them to this message. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Dean,

Congrats on a great purchase! If you look inside the body of the guitar you should see the Guild label and it will tell where it was made. Mine is made in Westerly RI.

The pickups are DeArmond 2000, but I've never found a spec sheet on the web. It'd be great if someone here has it. I have no info on the finish.

To attach pictures you have to first upload them to a site like photobucket.

What amp are you using?

Hello Dean,

Welcome! No, Guild/Fender/FMIC is not the right place to get information about older Guilds. I'm quite sure the person in 'customer relations' doesn't even know what model you actually have!

Hello jmac,

We're looking at an X-160 from 1988, not the X-160 Rockabilly that was introduced at the very end of the '90s. Same model # ......... different guitar!

A Guild X-160 from 1988 has two Guild HB-1 humbucking pickups, a 'poly' finish and it was made in Westerly, RI. The retail price at the time was $ 1395.00.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the info - the label on mine does say Westerly RI. Mine looks like the orange sunburst pictured except that it has the Guild Bigsby. It is a sweet looking guitar.

Sorry I didn't answer the question on the amp - I have a couple - 1996 Fender Deville 212, and I just bought a Fender '65 Twin Reverb Custom 15. I thought that the Deville had pretty good sound until I put it along side the Custom 15. It is way beyond the Deville. I always thought that I would save my pennies and buy a Victoria someday, but I think that the 65 reissue with the 15 inch speaker is about as good as it gets.

Dean,

thanks for the info on the amps. I'm looking at buying a new (used) amp, and its good to know that the Twin Reverb is superior to the DeVille.
