Mornin' all. I was going thru some of pics of my guitars that I have on my laptop and came across the pics for my Tacoma built F-412. It has a label I hadn't seen before so I went to the expert and asked if this was a typical type label.

Hans mentioned it was a special label made specifically for Dealers as a token of appreciation for those who had who had promoted the Guild brand for a long time. He also mentioned there were often times a special feature(s) that was included on the guitar.

Anyway, I had never seen one before so thought I'd share it with the forum members.

So does/did that 412 have any unusual features?

You know, I'm not sure to be honest. I'll take it out later and go over it (haven't played it in a while) and see if I can see anything. Not sure I'll be able to tell even if I see it though.

The most notable ones were the rosewood headstock overlay w. 'simple G' inlay, an ebony bridge w. special inlaid bridge pins, a thin pearl ring in the rosette and an ebony fingerboard w. square 'mother of pearl' block inlays. If I remember correctly it had a 'red spruce' top as well.

Sincerely,

Well, I pulled the guitar out and I've forgotten how very cool this one is. It's in superb cosmetic condition and Tom Jacobs and his crew did a neck reset so that's behind me. It has absolutely gorgeous grained back and sides, an Ebony fingerboard with very cool block inlays, the Rosewood headstock overlay with the G inlay and the G shield on the 12th fret. I'm not positive it's the Adi top but it looks like it may be. Here's a couple pics.

I have my D 40-12 listed locally on CL. A guy contacted me and said he's seen I've been selling a lot of Guild gear and asked if I had a JF 65 because he was looking for something Maple in a Guild Jumbo. I told him I did have the F-412 but wasn't sure I'd sell it (I've decided not to) but would send him a few pics anyway.

I think the only thing I would have liked different on this guitar is a highly figured/grained Maple neck. I just think they are sexy as hell. But, I'm fine with what I've got.

Excellent! Another of those pre-New Hartford-GSR models with the typical features seen on later GSR models. How rare. Thanks for sharing!

FYI, just reviving this because I bought this guitar from Rich Cohen, who bought it from richardp69. It's now part of my stable.

Bingo, Hans. Right on the money (as usual). In case there's any doubt, here's my F-512 next to the F-412 Special Reserve (which is a year newer than the F-512). Tacoma definitely used some very beautiful red spruce, not Sitka on this. I wonder if that's unique (Adi, that is) for an F-412/F-512. Admittedly, my F-512 (Sitka spruce) has a suntan from having seen occasional outdoor use, but there's no doubt in my mind the F-412 is Adirondack, particularly the grain rather than the color.

BTW, the pickguard on this guitar was replaced early on. I can't get a picture to show you clearly the shadow of the original, but it definitely was replaced -- you can sort of see it below. The G-shielded TRC comes from Thalia.

As far as I can ever recall seeing/ hearing about, yes. Period lit only shows 'em using it on the D40/D50 Bluegrass models, and the F40 Valencia and F30 Aragon. Standard F412/512's show "Solid spruce" tops.

Well it was until Oxnard came out in early 2019 with the one and only GSR F-512 #4000 using a AAAAA-grade Adirondack top with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides and a matching Madagascar RW headstock overlay.

Cool, Ralf. Do you have any more pix of that one? I don't see it in your collection that you sent me (of GSRs, that is).
