I saw that Twin Town Guitars in Minneapolis had a '67 Starfire V so I went and checked it out at lunchtime. A little dusty and it has some nicks and scratches and worn finish on the neck, but overall it looks very good for a 44-year-old guitar and it played nicely too. Case included (which I didn't see), but the price is on the steep side at $1,750. They also have a '59 X-175 Manhattan for $1,650 which I neglected to check out. DOH!

Hello Thunderface, a fellow twin-citizen! I recently heard that Twin Town is now a Guild dealer. Did you notice anything new on the wall?

Greetings Sal from the TC! Actually, they had several acoustic Guilds on the wall. Check out the link:

I usually got to Twin Town, and then go up Lyndale at stop at Encore Music on the way back to work. Only today, I didn't...stop at Encore. They have lots of acoustics there as well.

Mojo, you are a stickler for that price guide, aren't you? But in this case, I would say that would be more in line for what this particular Starfire would be worth, IMO.

unless it is a guitar i HAVE to have, i wont over pay. just my general rule and i've learned not to impulse buy when my GAS is boiling. In that condition, I couldnt give them more than $1450 unless i played it first and just HAD TO HAVE IT. i figure a better one will come along for the price i am looking to pay, it has always worked that way so far. I overpayed once before on a guitar that wasnt an essential and learned my lesson.

If you fall off the horse, you have to get right back on. Remember, it's better to have overpaid than never to have paid at all ... or something like that. I think I'm mangling my metaphors. It must be Friday afternoon.

What is very strange is the serial number on the headstock. It shows EL1628, well that is a 1967 serial number but of a Starfire IV not a V ! SF V would have a "EN" serial number.
However in 1967 the SF IV fretboard had dots and that one has a SF V fretboard. The serial number on the label inside would be interesting to see. Because something does not fit here.

I think I found the answer to my own serial number question. I found an older post from Hans where he said the serial number on some of the headstocks, # EL-xxxx, was stamped with the EL-prefix by mistake. It should have been # EN-xxxx. This would be a kind of mistake that happened from time to time in the factory. So probably the label inside shows the correct EN serial number, so it is definitely a Starfire V.
