Thinking that I need to replace the Saddle on my 1980 Guild D35. I am a bit confused when looking into buying one and could use some advice.
Fretboard Radius: is this 12"?
From what I have been able to find on the web it would be a Non-Compensated Saddle originally? or should I consider a Compensated Saddle?
Thanks in advance

First, why do you think you need to replace it? I would replace with compensated unbleached bone but that's just what I prefer.

You could try Bob Colosi:

He fabricated several saddles for me, including one for my D-6 where I sent the original plastic saddle to him and he fabricated a bone saddle to the same dimensions. It needed a slight thickness sanding, then dropped right in.

Because the High E has a buzz. After checking the action on the Low E is too lown or at least very low (at least for my old beginner fingers). Thinking that could could be an inexpensive repair.
Consider that where we live it would be a 2+ hour drive anywhere to have it looked at. The cost of a new Saddle would be neglecle in comparison to the drive and $6.00/Gal for CA Gasoline!!

I think the radius is probably 16". If your saddle is too low, the easiest solution is to glue a bone or wood shim to the bottom of the saddle. What is the action at the 12th fret for high and low E? Can you measure the length and width of the saddle?

I remembered about the Truss Rod and just loosened it by a 1/4 turn and it solved the problem until I can get the shims that schoolie recomended.
Thanks schoolie!

Shim the saddle, just under the high E, not ideal but will take care of the problem. A lot of people reworking saddles don't realize that the treble side doesn't have to be that low, sometimes higher than the bass side.

I hate to resurrect old threads but this discussion touches on several issues that I’m dealing with as I chase a buzz issue on my D60. Thanks to advice from another thread, I found the number for Bob Colosi and was prepared to order one or more shim kits. Everything was going to plan until I stumbled onto the topic of neck radius. What are the common signs that your saddle has an incorrect radius (if any) and how do I find the correct radius should I choose to have Bob make a new saddle?
