While listening to a compilation CD of my Dad’s, this song really leapt out to me. From a 1941 of Chu Berry and his orchestra, it features Hot Lips Page on trumpet and vocals.
It was the first recording of this song since it’s initial 1929 release by the composer’s, Don Redman, band. It would be a hit just a couple of years later for Nat King Cole in 1943, but I love this version. It’s both modern sounding, and depression era sounding.

And some sweet guitar work behind Hot Lips’ vocals by Al Casey!

Went and listened to the Nat King Cole version and I can see why it became a big hit. And why I’m not fond of it. He turned it into the typical crooner swing pop song of the 40s.

That is very cool, Hot Lips sounds great. Love the muted intro.
