Altered F-112 label--how frequent?

I'm just wondering how common this sort of thing is: below is the label from my F-112. As you can see, a former owner changed the "1" to a "4," presumably hoping to "up" the model designation and thus the value of the guitar. Pretty clever, huh? While this person was smart enough to use (almost) the same color ink, they were less careful about getting the label glued back in the proper place--note the sloppy back-brace overlap.)

Is this sort of deceitful alteration commonplace for the F-112? (For the record, I did not pay for a F-412.)

Thanks, everyone.....

Only recall seeing what appeared to be owner (or seller)-modified original labels 3, maybe 5 times in 12 years?

For one thing not to easy to do, and as in this case of an F-112 vs F-412, the difference in models is too great to survive even somewhat casual scrutiny, and would be immediately obvious to a Guild 12-er fan.

Thinking about it, we've actually seen many more examples of factory label errors than this type, over the years. ;)

Ha thinking in the old pawn shop daze, maybe people would be looking at text in a book to determine price. Pretty clever. More common from what I've seen are (presumably) stolen guitars that have serial numbers obliterated.

Serial dates to 1975.

I'll accept the claim that the label has been altered if it is pretty obvious that the instrument is a stock F-112 and not an F-412 but the label alone is not problematic. We have seen labels that were not in the expected location and we have seen faded ink that can look like two different pens. But a deliberate alteration like this in hopes that someone would believe the label and not their eyes when determining the model has been pretty rare.

Other things to check are that the written and stamped serials match and whether there is anything written or stamped inside.

Gotta love pawn shops. I found a nice Gretch Country Gent once that was priced pre Baldwin money. Owner was none too pleased when I called him out on it. He, of course, knew.

in 12th grade my homeroom teacher would ask me to bring the attendance sheet down to the attendance office after homeroom. on the way down, i would mark myself "absent" on the attendance list. that way, i would be on the absent list for the entire day. any clases i needed to cut out of, no problem. and if i showed, just tell the teacher i came in late (reason for being on the absent list). of course the secretary in the attendance office had no idea what my name was. so when i would say good morning and tell her how pretty her haircut was all the time...she thought nothing of it, as she was typing my name on the master absent sheet simultaneously...she really did like me...and me her...everybody wins...

Reminds me of when I was 16-17 - and behaving exxaggerated well in certain moments at school - some female teachers commented how polite I always was - no idea if they actually were just playing the game with me or not. . .

We see sellers on eBay, Reverb, Craigslist, etc., making exaggerated or false claims now and again. I can't recall ever seeing an altered label though.

Couldn't do that in my school, F's were always written in red pen! Even going over the F with the blue pen for the B never looked right!
Bastards!

In that case, I would have added a red + behind that F! Better to be an F+ student than an F- student.
