I am a novice player having taken up guitar as a “seasoned” adult, and have been bitten by the collecting bug.

Recently purchased what as sold to me as a USA built Bluesbird from a Guitar Center in St. Louis, MO. (Please don’t judge me LOL). The serial number stamped on the back of the headstock is CM 000192.

Oddly, there is no marking indicating where the guitar was made on the headstock, or anywhere else that I can find. From photos I have seen, ”Made in USA” is clearly stamped below the serial number. Trying to determine if the guitar is authentic and fairly original. Came with a hard case with green interior marked G&G The Original Vintage Case Company that fits well. Interior pocket contained a Guild owners manual circa 2002, a Fender Owners Registration card, and tool. The pricing was in line with others listed on Reverb.

I have added a few photos

. I have some time to return the guitar if I have picked up a dud. That said, it is absolutely beautiful, and the sound is exquisite. Your thoughts and comments are most welcome. Thanks again.

Welcome to LTG! Congrats on your Bluesbird! Yes, it is the real deal and was made in Corona. The "Made in USA" stamping stopped shortly after the move from Westerly to Corona so no worries. The pickups look like they are non-original. The should be Seymour Duncan '59s with nickel plated covers. Otherwise everything looks correct! Enjoy your new guitar!

Congrats! Looks legit, and I agree those are not the original pickups, but they look great and might even be upgrades!

As for the Made in USA thing, according to the FTC “Made in USA” means that “all or virtually all” the product has been made in America. If memory serves the pots in those guitars are from Mexico which might explain the change.

Gorgeous guitar.

Hello from Finland

With my somewhat limited english I'm having a slight problem understanding the connection between the bolded parts of your writing . . .

Glad that you've got hold on such great and beautiful instrument.

And welcome to LTG

To Nuuska, ”Dud” was my reference to something that is not authentic. All, thanks for the welcome. I look forward to learning more about the Guild brand, tone woods used, AAA versus AA flamed, etc., from all of you.

If you have not seen it yet, you can start with the 2002 catalog: (there you can download the PDF from our forum owner GAD)

Hello from Finland

"dud" is often used in connection with explosives that did not explode.

In this context "dud" has been generalized to mean something that does not live up to expectations or perform as expected.

Yup - I do know the meaning - so I was wondering why he was about to have a dud while few words later telling how great guitar it is.

The sentence would make sense if "dud" were synonym to "all original". Like one pup changed makes it dud.

I'm confused. I would rewrite that as

If I have picked up an instrument that is a dud then I have some time to return it. That said [it is not a dud, but] it is absolutely beautiful and the sound is is exquisite.
