I love the dude eating sushi in the foreground.

That's beautiful, by the way. Did Ted always use a Tele, or did he go to an archtop at all?

Ted was a known Guild enthusiast. He can be seen playing a wide variety of Guilds in other clips.
He did tell me once that in case of fire, he would grab his #1 Tele and a Gibson ES-330 he thought was special.
This poor quality screen shot shows Ted playing his X-375 IMG_0660.jpeg

So I go to my local Seafood restaurant, or maybe I drive out of the way a bit. But either way, I get there and Ted Greene is playing guitar? That seems outrageously lucky, doesn't it?

Incredible. Simply mesmerizing how he weaves the melody into the chords so beautifully. I could listen to him all day.

This video does a good job of reproducing Ted’s incredible tone. It was truly amazing. It gave you chicken skin.
Him playing live was a fairly rare occurrence. He preferred restaurants, where he could be sort of in the background.
The one time I was able to see him we were seated next to a large group that was celebrating…something.
They were so loud we couldn’t really hear Ted.

I got bored after a few minutes though, as nothing much newer ever happens after some time, but he has outstanding skill and a genuine musical sense and feel...
(Some) restaurants are great places to practise quietly but efficiently, while being paid.

Shows are more demanding as you have to grab people attention and hold it till the end (while letting them breathe and rest in between - or meanwhile -)...
I think I'm gonna get shot for that, but at least it will have been dramatic ! :giggle:  😉

And most of all, thanks for sharing and letting us know this folk (I had never heard of him before, even thought of a topic about some Martin products director)

I love Ted Greene too much, so I I try to stay away from him. He infects my playing.

Some time ago, I was goofing around trying out an acoustic guitar in a shop. I was playing a composition I was working on (and never finished) which was inspired by some things on John McLaughlin's Extrapolation album and the Herbie Hancock Maiden Voyage album. I wasn't really paying attention to my surroundings, just playing quietly minding my own business--Ted Greene was the furthest thing from my mind.

Then this guy appeared and asked if he could play along with what I was playing. He was intimidatingly good, way, way, way better than me. When I wound things down, he smiled and said, "You really love Ted Greene, don't you?"\

Agggghhhh!!!!!! No, no, no, no!

Canard, I feel you. I took me a long time to overcome (at least to a certain extent) ‘Ted syndrome’ . Although my own playing is modest, I’m always asking myself ‘what would Ted play here?’ trying to imitate the master.
Just playing like me is really hard, but I’m getting better at it.
