I just bought a "new" used bluesbird. It has the original pickups and master volume. Love the neck and tone , but it has a poor refinish job . How do I determine the age by the serial # and where can I purchase a nut ( cut too deep on third and fourth strings ) and the brass indicator pins ( volume and tone ) .This thing kills my lester!!!
Hi, elojohn -

The solid body M-75s usually have the serial number on a Guild sticker glued to the shielding under the electronics cover on the back. Did you already check here? I'm assuming you already did?

-- Does yours also have a phase switch? The master volume and phase switch were added in 1972.
-- Do you have a rosewood or ebony fretboard? Ebony fretboards were added in 1973.
-- Also, as matsickma mentioned above, the slanted tailpiece was moved closer to the bridge starting around 1976 to increase the string angle off the bridge and to prevent string slippage from the saddles.
-- These M-75s were made until 1977.

Hope this helps you get closer to dating it. If you post a pic, we might be able to help sleuth the date a little more accurately.

I've got a '76 M-75 CS that is awesome!

EDIT: Ooops! I meant to answer this part of your question
How do I determine the age by the serial # . . .
This Guild serial number chart is accurate for dating your M-75.

My 1971 M75 has chrome hardware and an ebony fretboard. Nice guitar but pretty heavy.
Thanks John
