It's been a while since I posted here, although I do visit from time to time.

In early 2010 I bought a stunning 2002 Bluesbird. I loved everything about this guitar, except 1 thing: the fat neck. Granted I am used to more 'modern' slimmer necks, but for the life of me I could not acclimate to it. It was much more chunky than a typical 50's syle neck. I tried for a year, and realized I couldn't do it, so I sold it. It was heartbreaking because I really did love that guitar.

So my questions is... do all Bluesbirds have that extra chunky neck? I know it's subjective, and I'll bet alot of people love fat necks, and that's great. I can't play 'em. But I love the BB guitars so much, and I'm hoping to hear something along the lines of "the earlier ones had necks that weren't so fat", or something like that. Any thoughts?

I think I know what you're talking about. I had two Bluesbirds for a short time, to decide which one I wanted to keep. One of them was a Blues 90, which had 2 p-90's, no neck binding and a dot fingerboard. It had an unusually chunky neck. The other one is the 'regular' Bluesbird, with the rectangular fingerboard inlays, neck binding, and 2 humbuckers. That one has what I would consider an average sized neck profile, perhaps a tad on the chunky side, but very comfortable. Both were 2000 vintage. I sold the Blues 90, couldn't get used to the neck. Both are great sounding guitars.

I've had three bluesbirds in my hand. One had a super chunky neck. One medium, and the last rather on the slim side. I've always wanted a bluesbird, but it would have to be a medium necked example.

I love chunky necks - like Gibson R6 chunky - yum.

My Fender Bluesbird was about the same, if not a little thinner than my 2010 R9. Thick compared to a shredder neck, but thin compared to the mega-necks I prefer in a Les Paul.
