Moved just in case someone doesn't realize the link is from a humor site :)

I wonder if the technology could be extended to keep intoxicated patrons away from instruments at a gig...

“This is total bullshi*t!” Paul slurred while stumbling around his kitchen trying to stuff Doritos in his mouth and mostly missing. “Everyone loves when I play guitar. And when I’m a little drunk, that just helps unleash my creative energy and fearless performance skills. What’s the big deal, anyway? No one ever got hurt from mixing booze and music, except for I guess Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon, all of Guns ‘N’ Roses, and everyone at Woodstock ’99.”

I remember this one gig we had about 30 miles from town - The band I was mixing was a locally famous and very popular band since about 1975 - The gig was a birthday party w a MC, who also played acoustic guitar.

We had been told to arrive "in sly" - to set up without revealing who we were - that was easy between me and another guy who did not play in that group - band was hiding in backstage. Then the evening got close to our play-time . . . .

The poor birthday-hero had been telling for years that once he played guitar in this very band - no - he never did - right before our showtime the MC calls the birthday-man up and asks : "is it really true that you once played guitar with this band?" - He says "Yes!" - the mc hands an acoustic guitar over and asks him to show something. Poor fellow strums something quite unmusical - he was somewhat tipsy at that time, too . . . .

MC hollers to backstage : "Would this level of guitar playing be enough for you?" And the band comes out and starts to play.

Poor fella - it was his party after all - even though he had been bullshitting all those years - we had no clue what was going to happen.

He had it coming - but I still think it was quite qruel thing to do - someone must have told the MC to do that - maybe the poor man's wife . . .

I'd settle for it keeping that guy in the audience from playing his harmonica.

Trouble is, there are lots of folks out there who don't even have to be drunk to foist a warped sense of their "talent" on others.

Decades ago I was at a little club, the band is playing, lots of people dancing. And yes, a guy was dancing with his girlfriend while playing harmonica. And no, he wasn't talented. I'm guessing he went home alone, since his companion didn't like it either.

How about the hummers at classical concerts? I was grateful for the atonal avant garde piece a few years ago because the woman in front of me finally quit humming.
