I’ve got the original case for my lovely old x-440, but it would be nice to have something a little sturdier for the rare times when it leaves the house. My understanding is that the new Newark St. series cases are a little shallow for a vintage archtop — so does anyone have other recommendations? I suppose I could use a Gibson L5/J200 case, but I wonder if I’m missing any other options.

Gator make a jumbo acoustic case that works for 17" archtops, in some kind of high impact ABS or whatever it is. Fits my early
60's X175's. I've checked it on flights whete I had to (with NS guild inside) and it does great so far. Not crazy expensive

Hand't thought about a molded option -- thanks.
For my 17” A-150b, I’m using a molded jumbo-acoustic Road Runner case (available at GC), and it’s a very nice fit. I great prefer thermoplastic cases to wood, both for low weight & resistance to mildew.

I own a '53 X-150 prototype that is a full 3 1/2" at the end pin, not including the arched top and back. I'm thinking the best solution might be to order an F-40 case from Guild (and by F-40, I mean the new 17" Oxnard-made sitka/mahogany F-40, not the older 16" F-40 Valencia).
