I'm looking to purchase a case for this guitar. I looked over at Musician's Friend and the choice is daunting as they seem to have several hundred in both the acoustic & electric catagories...neither of which seems really appropriate.

Then I had the idea that maybe a Gretsch case would work and saw this one for $109

Lower bout is 16" like the CE100

Any opinions on whether this case might work or where to get one that would be a good fit?

Make sure you call Musician's friend and verify their return policy.

If there's no risk to you if the case doesn't fit, then there's no risk, you know? :)

Provided MF pays return shipping and refunds all fees. Otherwise, which happens too often to me when I order something and it is "wrong", you are stuck with shipping charges in both directions. That can be big enough to be a "risk" IMO.

Guitar Center is part of Musician's Friend, and if you have one near your home, I'd check with them. Check for case availability on the Guitar Center web site. You can take your guitar in the store with you. Paying the tax would be worth it, knowing that you're buying the proper case. Just print out the case info/web page from Guitar Center and take it with you; sometimes things are priced higher in the local store than they show online - show the print out and pay the online price.

They have a used one (mint) for $95... I would buy that instead... same darn case $14 cheaper...

I got a great TKL case from Joe at archtop.com. He offers several sizes, etc. - mine fits my Gibson ES-135 archtop perfectly, and the case is extremely protective!

It wasn't cheap, but it is a very high quality case and a perfect fit. If you email him, he will help you out.

Hi guys, thanks for all the input.

I've since stumbled across a nice measured drawing that a gretsch owner did of his 5120. I measured the CE100 and every single measurement was nearly exactly the same except for total body length (picture strap hook to strap hook), for that dimension the Gretsch was nearly an 1" longer.

So, I do believe that case should work, I may have to keep 2 small pieces of 1" foam in the case but big deal.

Of course it then occurred to me that there are several stores around here that probably have a 5120 and case for it and I do think it would be prudent to check first, I learned that the hard way. Last year I bought a used Gibson ES330L from Musicians Friend with free shipping. I couldn't deal with the chunky neck though and sent it back...it cost me $85(!) It was worth it though, that is how I ended up getting into Guilds.

That's a good idea to check with Hans. I am on a budget though and frankly am kinda looking for something slightly generic so I won't mind if it gets beat up since I do intend to gig with the guitar.

I will post a link to that drawing when I'm at my other computer, it may be helpful to others.
