not long ago I bought a 1x12 Mesa/Celestion Black Shadow 90 watt speaker with open back cab. that thing sounds like angels, with any amp plugged into it

Celestion tried to move manufacturing of the Mesa Black Shadow to China, Mesa told them no way Jose, they must be crafted in England, or it is game over for this partnership. and so Celestion agreed to keep building them in England.

well I am no expert on amps and speakers, and I know lower watt speakers are used when that tweedy break up is desired...but as a Silverface Fender Twin Reverb is not tweedy, and is 100 watts of clean/headroom...i'm not sure how you can run two 30-watt speakers which only total 60 watts, in a 100 watt amp? a V-12 30 is 30 watts, yes?? that sounds like a recepie for failure. u could have two 200 watt speakers in that thing! (would
sound like the creambacks, just a lot more headroom/volume available). anyway, glad u got it sorted! prefer silverface Fenders myself

Is it one of the Thiele-designed, front-ported cabs, mav? Maybe not, since IIRC, the Thiele's are closed back? Perhaps the open back are also Thiele?

I've always wanted to try one of the closed back types 'cuz I've always heard how great they sound.

the Thiele is the closed back one. mine is the open back, it's 19 inches wide, which I believe is the same size as the Thiele.
there is also a wide-body open back version that is 23 inches wide.

looks like mine is called the "Boogie 19"

Ahh. Thanks for the info. Now I have to try both open and closed when I have a chance. :C)
